I’ve referenced MediaPlanner in previous blog postings and the current edition includes a breakdown of how the top 10 advertisers have increased their advertising spend this year. The category is led by Procter and Gamble, but other market leaders include: AT &T, and General Motors.

Double-digit increases in the percent of new cars sold in April 2010 compared to the same month last year, are predicted in this Reuters article. A 20% increase to an annualized rate of  11.4 million units is still below the peak years, but well up from what we have seen in the last couple of years. When consumers start taking on new debt you know they either need to  (the old car is costing more to keep than new payments), or they’re feeling better about the future. I’m thinking it is both.

With unusual incentives from Toyota pacing the growth, March new car sales jumped 27% from March 2009. Not only did Toyota see growth but so did GM and other brands. Time Magazine’s report wonders whether this marks the beginning of new car sales growth that some were predicting as early as the third quarter of 2009.
