The Main Street Myrtle Creek Association is pleased to announce a visit to Douglas County by Joy Sears, Restoration Specialist from the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).  SHPO falls under Heritage Programs in the Oregon Parks & Recreation Department.  The purpose of Joy’s visit is to make a presentation, customized for our area, about preserving and restoring historic buildings, increasing energy efficiency for those buildings, how the Heritage Programs can help, and grant funding opportunities.  In the words of A.N. Didron, 1839: “It is better to preserve than to restore and better to restore than to reconstruct.”

The presentation should be of interest to owners and/or tenants of historic buildings, those interested in downtown revitalization and economic development, City officials, Main Street organizations, Chambers of Commerce, realtors, civic groups, representatives from museums and anyone else interested in the topics to be discussed.  Those attending may bring photographs of historic buildings for Joy to review and comment on. Further, Joy will be available to make site visits to local communities on Tuesday morning, November 30th.

This informative presentation will take place in the Grape Room at Seven Feathers Casino Resort, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, November 29, 2010. The presentation is free and open to the public, however space is limited to 80 persons. RSVP to 541-860-5846 is encouraged, but not required.
