    Overview

Kumara Parvatha Trek is a challenging trek located in the Western Ghats, Karnataka. The trek is known for its steep ascent, rocky terrain, and dense forest cover, making it a challenging yet rewarding experience for adventure enthusiasts. The trek starts from the town of Kukke Subramanya, which is known for its famous temple dedicated to Lord Subramanya.

The trail passes through lush green forests of the Western Ghats, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The trek is approximately 14 kilometres long and takes around 8-10 hours to complete, requiring a good level of physical fitness and stamina.

The trek is divided into two parts, with the first part leading to the Bhattara Mane, a rest house located midway on the trek. The second part of the trek involves a steep climb to the Kumara Parvatha peak, the highest point of the trek. The view from the Kumara Parvatha peak is breathtaking, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding hills and valleys.

Overall, the Kumara Parvatha Trek is an excellent opportunity for adventure enthusiasts to experience the thrill of trekking in a breathtaking natural setting while exploring the rich biodiversity of the Western Ghats.

    Start

The trek starts from the town of Kukke Subramanya, which is located in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. Kukke Subramanya is a famous pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Subramanya, and it is believed that the deity here protects devotees from the dangers of the forest. From Kukke Subramanya, the trek follows a 14-kilometre trail that takes around 8-10 hours to complete.

The initial trail is relatively easy and passes through open meadows and a small stream. As the trail progresses, it becomes steeper and passes through thick forests, making it more challenging. The trek requires a good level of physical fitness and stamina as the ascent is steep, and the terrain is uneven.

The trail passes through the Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to a wide range of flora and fauna. The sanctuary is known for its rich biodiversity, and it is home to many endangered species such as the lion-tailed macaque, giant squirrel, and Indian rock python. The trek provides an opportunity for trekkers to experience the beauty of the Western Ghats and to explore the rich biodiversity of the region.

    Parts of trek

The trek is divided into two parts, with the first part leading to the Bhattara Mane, a rest house located midway on the trek. The Bhattara Mane provides basic accommodation and food facilities for trekkers. It is advisable to take a break here and recharge yourself before continuing the trek to the Kumara Parvatha peak.

The second part of the trek involves a steep climb to the Kumara Parvatha peak, which is the highest point of the trek. The peak stands at an altitude of 1,712 meters above sea level, and the view from the top is breathtaking, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding hills and valleys.

The Kumara Parvatha peak is also a popular spot for camping, and many trekkers prefer to camp here overnight to witness the sunrise over the Western Ghats. Camping at the peak is an unforgettable experience, and it provides an opportunity to connect with nature and to appreciate the beauty of the Western Ghats.

    Trek back down

The trek back down to Kukke Subramanya is also challenging, as the descent is steep and can be slippery, especially during the monsoon season. It is essential to be cautious while descending and to wear proper trekking shoes to avoid slipping.

The best time to undertake the Kumara Parvatha Trek is from October to February when the weather is pleasant and the sky is clear. The monsoon season, which lasts from June to September, is not advised since the trail can become slick and hazardous..

    Conclusion

In conclusion, the Kumara Parvatha Trek is a challenging and rewarding trek that provides an opportunity to explore the natural beauty and rich biodiversity of the Western Ghats. The walk takes a high degree of physical strength and stamina and is not for the faint of heart. However, the stunning views from the Kumara Parvatha peak and the unique experience of camping in the Western Ghats make it all worth the effort.

The trek also highlights the importance of responsible trekking practices, such as minimizing your impact on the environment and respecting the local culture and customs. It is essential to be well-prepared and to carry sufficient water, food, and trekking gear to ensure a safe and enjoyable trek.

The Kumara Parvatha Trek is an excellent opportunity for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers to connect with nature and experience the thrill of trekking in a stunning natural setting. It is a must-do trek for anyone seeking a challenging and unforgettable adventure in the Western Ghats of Karnataka.
